About
Carole Neilson is a french potter based in San Francisco. Following her education in biochemistry, she began crafting her love for ceramics at the Academy of Art in Mol, Belgium, which provided her with technical skills and a precise understanding of materials. Her natural curiosity and her elevated energy have led her to pursue different forms of traditional pottery making. She is always experimenting with new techniques and new forms including Saggar firing, modern Kintsugi, and contemporary sculpture.
She comes from Alsace in the North of France, a region with a strong tradition of rural pottery, one that goes back more than 2000 years.
Her work has always been influenced by the functionality and utility of ceramic pieces. Her work is not just beautiful, but practical, with objects that can be used for cooking, eating, and storing. Elevating food and your everyday experience in the home through handmade pottery.
Through the years, she has explored several themes all gravitating around the raw mysterious powers of the planet, creating sculptures and objects that bring those very powers into the home, all smoked in layers of sawdust, made from the earth.
